Domain Name Information
The domain name record for this store gives us the information that this domain has been registered since 2004 and doesn’t expire until 2022. This is normally a good sign of legit pharmacy business, the less reliable drugstores fall by the wayside before they have been online for anywhere near this long.
The record also reveals that the domain was registered by PillPack Inc. who are based in New Hampshire, USA. This further points towards this store being operated by a legit business.
When we check the background of this online pharmacy we find a few very interesting things. PillPack Inc. was founded in 2013, it is based in Manchester, New Hampshire and operates locations in Miami, Brooklyn, Salt Lake City, Austin and Somerville, Massachusetts.
In 2017 it was reported that the business was an acquisition target. The following year they entered into acquisition talks with Walmart which didn’t succeed. Later that year they were acquired by Amazon.com Inc. becoming a subsidiary in September 2018.
The logo of the site has the words “an Amazon company” written underneath. This clearly shows that this pharmacy is a legit and safe place to purchase your meds, but is it the best place?
You would expect this business to be correctly following the rules based on what we have already found out about the ownership of the business. They display seals from the VIPPS program from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy and URAC.
When we check these approval seals to see if they are genuine, we find that they are displayed correctly.
A check with LegitScript shows more good news about this online pharmacy. They are operating this business as part of LegitScript’s certification program, which means they are held accountable to operate to a higher standard.
How Service Works
PillPack offers a different service to other pharmacies which they claim simplifies taking meds. Each month they send you a box which contains a roll of little packets which are joined together. You open these in the order they come out of the box and they contain all the pills you have to take at that particular time of day.
They work with your doctor and insurance to make sure you get the correct medication. They automatically refill your prescription when needed and adjust your meds if the prescription changes.
If you need to contact a pharmacist to find out more about your pills, one will be available 24 hours a day. They can be contacted via email, phone or through their iOS app.
Payment and Shipping
This pharmacy accepts payment through most insurance plans and you can also pay out of pocket or copays with credit cards, HSA/FSA cards or bank transfer.
Delivery is free and you will receive a new box of pills every month. If you need medication urgently when you sign up, they will rush your pills to you ahead of your normal delivery. This is required because it normally takes two weeks for your first delivery because they need to coordinate your prescriptions so that they can be packaged together.
On this page, they claim that their customers love their service and that they have an above average rating. It doesn’t say which pharmacies make up the other sites which pull down the average, however, and doesn’t provide any further information about how these scores were calculated.
This page also contains some comments from customers which are positive and seem genuine. There aren’t any negative comments here though, as you would expect on a pharmacy’s own pages.
We have been able to find a few testimonials on independent review sites and they are nowhere near as positive. There are complaints on the BBB page for this business and mostly negative comments on Trustpilot.
This store is clearly a legit business, it is part of Amazon after all. They have all the correct regulatory approvals and provide an innovative service to make taking medicine an easier experience.
However, there are far more complaints and negative testimonials than we would really like to find. This has led to our rating of 4 stars out of five.
