ThriftyMeds.com is a Canadian online pharmacy which claims to only ship drugs from Canada. As their name would suggest they promise cheaper medical prices on drugs which are approved by Canada’s Health Protection Branch. We review this drugstore to find out if they are as great as they claim.

Domain Name Information
The Whois database gives us access to details of domain name registrations. Looking at the record for this domain address shows us that it has been registered since 2002 and doesn’t expire until 2023. A long history suggests a site which has been successfully operating and is a promising signal of a legit business. The long expiration date is also good and shows the owners have faith in their business.
The contact details are often hidden using a privacy service, but not in this case. This domain name was registered by a company called ‘Pixels Inc.’ who are based in Manitoba, Canada.
The domain name was registered in 2002 and the website doesn’t look like it has been modified or updated since then. The very dated look and feel to the store doesn’t give a very good impression of the pharmacy and could give you some concern about security. It is surprising they haven’t updated the store given that they must be fairly successful to still be around.
Business Contact Details
The name of the business which turned up in the domain name record (Pixels Inc.) seems to be a web design company rather than the operators of this store. A different business name (Ellis Pharmacy) is given on the store’s home page, they are based in Manitoba, Canada as the domain record suggested.
When we check on this address we find it is a genuine pharmacy store location as expected. This real-world store also sells liquor though presumably, they don’t sell that from their online store.
This business is based in Canada so you would expect them to be regulated by the main organizations for that country.
They are not regulated by any of these regulatory associations, and in fact, they make it clear that they do not want to seek regulation from them because of the fees they charge.
They claim that they are correctly registered with the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association and have a profile with the Better Business Bureau which requires correct licensing.
LegitScript has looked at this online pharmacy and finds that they don’t meet their standards. They give the drugstore an ‘unapproved’ rating.
Drugs on Offer
A good amount of drugs are offered by this online pharmacy. They sell both brand-name and generic medications.
You do need to have a prescription from either a Canadian or US doctor. The way in which you place a prescription order is, like the rest of the site, rather old fashioned. You need to print out and fill in a couple of forms to send with your valid prescription.
Payment and Shipping
Drugs can be purchased from this store using;
- Certified check
- Money order
The main store isn’t secured by a security certificate, but fortunately, the checkout pages are correctly protected.
Shipping can take 12 business days of prescription medication to the United States. It can take between 6 and 8 weeks for the medication to be delivered elsewhere in the world. Delivery to the US costs $10 and is free for orders over £100. Shipping costs for other countries in the world vary depending on location.
Given that this site has been in operation since 2002 it is surprising that ThriftyMeds.com reviews are few and far between. We have found 4 customer testimonials on the Better Business Bureau site.
All of these customer comments are highly positive giving the store 5-stars. There may be a problem with these comments, however, as they were all posted in the same month in 2016. It may be the case that they were asking customers to leave comments at that time, which explains this strange similarity.
This old fashioned online pharmacy does have a few things to recommend it. They are a genuine business based in Canada and as such are regulated by their local Pharmaceutical Association.
However, their store isn’t the easiest to use and there is a question mark over the amount of customer feedback and if it is genuine. This pharmacy isn’t likely to be a scam but it isn’t the best out there either.
We give this drugstore 3-stars out of 5.
